In Detroit, coffee shops cluster around downtown offices, college campuses and the main commercial streets of residential neighborhoods, and the independents usually close by mid-afternoon while chains stay open into the evening. Across Michigan, drive-thru coffee stands and kiosks fill the gap in suburbs and along highways, and roasters often sell bags and brewing gear at the counter. Check the listing for hours, whether the cafe takes mobile orders, and its Google rating and recent reviews; parking is easiest at suburban locations, while downtown shops rely on street meters or nearby garages. Loyalty programs are common and worth joining if you are a regular.

Really nice vibe with a beautiful vintage-style interior. Their house-roasted beans are excellent and work perfectly for pour-over. The staff are very friendly and knowledgeable. Definitely a great spot for coffee.

I genuinely don't even know where to start, but Sepia and the owner is hands down amazingπŸ₯Ή! The entire foundation and makeup of this place is beautiful...the Black History, Detroit History, Queer, coffee methods and sourcing. Everything feels so intentional and warm 🀎 I'm so happy to have found Black roaster and thank you for going above and beyond for my delivery and being so sweet! The Mahogany blend is sooo smooth 😩, been looking for a light/med roast πŸ₯°

Best cafe in Detroit. Everything is intentional and thoughtfully crafted but accessible and not pretentious. The specialty drinks are always different and amazing. And the roasts are the best in the city. Palestina is the best roast I’ve had in my life. Plus the owner Martell is very community oriented and goes out of his way to be involved in the community and welcoming to everyone.

If you're passing by and want to grab a drink or looking to pick up beans for your home brew, Sepia delivers on both. They bring an immense value of community, warmth, and respect for history that I love about Detroit. I came in to pick up some new coffee for my home set up and was treated like luxury. I went back and forth with Martel (not sure how their name is properly spelled) talking about things I liked and was presented with great information and some drip and espresso to try. I've routinely been purchasing beans here for the past 5 months and have been impressed by their quality and diversity of choice. I've been helped by others as well and appreciate everyone's knowledge and ability to translate that into something you can take home and enjoy. Their drinks are spectacular and their specials are intriguing throughout the seasons. Oat milk is their standard which was a pleasant surprise. For those interested in Detroit community, this place is a natural hub.

Was visiting from Dallas for work. Chose to come by because of the ethos of the shop. Then I saw the reviews, and it was done. The staff was very friendly and open. The cafe had a part factory/part coffee shop look and feel, which I loved. Industry meets The Earth, y’know? I had the Sepia roast, and it was light yet bold. Totally held its own. The taste was smooth. It was so damn good, I decided to buy a bag. I had a savory scone and chocolate chip cookie too, and yeah- everything was delicious. Coming here was a total jackpot. I’ve been home for over two weeks now, and I have to get another bag (ordering online).
